When you’re testing a favicon, you’ll probably run into Safari’s tendency to aggressively cache favicons. No matter how many times you refresh, it hangs on to the old favicon. To solve this, go to Safari > Empty Cache and untick all the options apart from “Remove all website icons”.

“The Icon Handbook is another must-have publication from Five Simple Steps. Bold, beautiful, thoughtful, and comprehensive. Jon Hicks has created a fantastic web-specific resource that every web designer should own”
Simon Collison
“This isn’t just any book, it’s one that Jon has wanted to write for a long time but waited until he found a publisher who could do justice to his vision. Lucky for us he found it. Jon’s flawless eye for detail is evident on every page of The Icon Handbook.”
Andy Clarke
“What graphic designer wouldn’t love to find The Icon Handbook on their reading shelf in 2012?”
Happy Cog
“It’s pointless beating around the bush here, The Icon Handbook looks gorgeous… As you would expect, no corners have been cut with the supporting imagery, and the care and craft taken in producing this book is apparent on every page. This is a book for designers, by designers.”

I just want to say that I am really impressed with the depth and scope of the book. Take it from a fellow icon lover and designer, people are going to really find your book useful!

Here’s a taster from Chapter 6 (Icon Formats and Deployment). The chapter goes into detail about every kind of format and method displaying icons on websites, but this portion deals with just the topic of using web fonts.
